There are numerous restaurants in the town of Bodrum appealing to every taste. You can find fish restaurants, typical Turkish restaurants serving “ döner ” or “ kebap ”, and also international restaurants serving italian, Chinese or Indian cuisines.
Introduction to Turkish Cuisine
Denizhan Restaurant
The
name of Denizhan has grown over the last ten years, since it opened on a barren
stretch of road between Konacik and Ortakent. There were no other places in
this vicinity ten years ago, now of course it is surrounded by the trappings
of modern Bodrum, but the welcome and quality of food has remained unchallenged
over the years.
This
year there is a new terrace area at the back of the restaurant allowing more
space. Whether you are dining for a business deal or a romantic meal for two,
Denizhan will excel and rise to the challenge, leaving you to enjoy the food
and the company.
Denizhan's food can be defined as Turkish Cuisine Fusion in popular terms.
Predominately a kitchen influenced by the east of Turkey , but the breeze
of both the Aegean and the Mediterranean can be tasted in the mezes. Indeed,
look out of the window and survey the organic vegetable patch. Tel: 0 252

Kismet Restaurant
For
tasting the unique local Aegean cuisine, we would recommend “Kismet”
restaurant near to the town centre.Open
only for lunch, Kismet looks like a typical local workers' café . But
some local specialities set this establishment apart from its rivals. Fresh-picked
greens with exotic names like kenker, silcan and sirken get variously stuffed,
boiled or roasted to produce the best of traditional Turkish cooking, then
there's lokum pilav (a popular rice dish), leeks with chickpeas, chicken manti
(rolled up filo pastry, simmered then served with yogurt), and kalburabasti,
(a dessert made with walnuts), just to mention a few. The wood oven at the
back of the premises, and a pile of kneaded dough on the marble worktop are
always at the ready for any orders for freshly-made ‘ pide' (Turkish
pizza), also made with the local greens, herbs or other tasty ingredients.
Although this is not a restaurant for ambiance, it is the
best place where you can taste the original and delicious dishes of Bodrum
made from wild herbs and fresh local ingredients. The restaurant is very popular
among the residents of Bodrum for lunch. Therefore, the best time to visit
is just before lunch time when you can see all the dishes that are prepared
daily before they are finished. The restaurant is open only during daytime
and is closed on Sundays. The prices are reasonable.
Kismet is run by Orhan Dumanli, a Bitez village local and a real expert when
it comes to restaurants, having previously been part-owner of ‘Katre'
on Bitez beach (sadly, now closed). Orhan brings together local Bodrum women
as his ‘tasters' to maintain the quality and consistency of his food
and personally selects the best olive oil and the freshest herbs and vegetables
from the markets around.
With its traditional values and unrivalled selection of real Mediterranean
cooking, Kismet attracts customers from all over the place, and from every
walk of life, creating outstanding flavours difficult to recreate at home
- so don't miss it…!

Arsipel Fish Restaurant
Hearing the word 'arsipel' one remembers just
one thing, Arsipel Fish Restaurant. It meant in antiquity 'old sea, the sea
of islands', and was the name given to the Aegean then, as well as being the
title of a book by the Fisherman of Halicarnassus. Thus it has several outstanding
interpretations.
Arsipel is located in Aktur, close to Bitez which is one of the most popular
places again this year. We recommend smoked, marinated and raw fish plates.
Smoked bonito, salmon, marinated sword fish, raw fish of the season, octopus
and shrimps are all served with virgin olive oil. Other Arsipel specialities
are pan fried stuffed calamari, grilled octopus tentacles, fish cakes (kofte)
and sea food pastries (borek).
If you can get there early, go and enjoy swimming in the turquoise water -
early because otherwise the area is crowded with regular guests and there
will be no place for you!
